WAWC to Re-Open on Wednesdays

Walnut Avenue Women’s Center will be open on Wednesdays again

When the governor signed the state budget, 20.4 million dollars was restored for domestic violence services, about 80% of the funds that had been redlined in 2009!  The funds will be distributed to the 94 DV agencies in the state through our current CalEma grant.

This means that Walnut Avenue Women’s Center will re-open our doors on Wednesdays

starting November 10!

Our walk-in hours for domestic violence services are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1:00-4:00pm.   Participants can also make an appointment to meet with an advocate by calling our business office at 426-3062.

Domestic Violence Services offered are:  One-on-One Peer Advocacy; Legal Advocacy; Support Groups; Career Advancement Workshops; Emergency Interim Shelter; Clinical Counseling; Community Education; Internships and a  24 Hour Bilingual Crisis Hotline 1-866-2MY-ALLY (1-866-269-2559)

In addition, the restored funds will allow us to increase hours for our youth development advocates, for teen dating violence prevention, as well as our child advocate support team, who provide childcare to participants during support group and peer counseling appointments.  In January we will also hire another full time domestic violence advocate!

Thanks to each of you for your continued support of Walnut Avenue Women’s Center and our participants, especially over this past very challenging year!

The Walnut Avenue Women’s Center is located at 303 Walnut Avenue, Santa Cruz.  For more information about the programs and services offered go to www.WAWC.org
